So I'm out running my Deuce...

Having fun...

Everything is good...until it was about to go back out.

A crack in the stock header. Right by the flange. I guess it got too hot.

My question is this: I have seen the Macs header and pipe that should work. However, the length of both concerns me.

Now I know that I can cut it to fit, and if I have read right, the total length of the header and pipe mounted should be 8 3/4"? Is that correct? What kind of performance can I hope to gain. I have the stock Q-18 quiet pipe on it now. Should I just go with the header and keep the stock pipe.

Thoughts/opinions.

Thanks.

You can definetly use the macs header and cut it to the same length as stock. You may or may not notice a performance increase. Although the macs is bigger and alot smoother on the inside, you may see throttle response improve. 8 3/4 is a great starting point. You could upgrade the pipe as well if you choose, you should see mesuarlbe gains with pipe and header combo.

Typicaly I cut my headers short and use a longer coupler to control the lentght of the exhaust system, that way if i need to shorten 1/2 i cut the zip tie and push it in.

Macs is best...Pipe length is correct but I prefer 8.5

As far as the header breaking this comes from not being supported well, and if its the stock set it will crack adventually. During a boats operation on the water it goes thru hell. Remember our race course moves...so do you. The header takes alot of the hell.

GET MAC OR BE IN BACK....

Thanks, Not really...

Just so I understand.

When you guys are referring to pipe length, you're just talking about the tuned pipe and not the header right?

I believe a stock Macs pipe is over 10". So does that need to be cut to the 8 3/4" or the overall distance from glow plug to tip of tuned pipe needs to be 8 3/4?

8.5 is the total PIPE length...has nothing to do with the header. A new MACS 3.5 pipe will come near 11 inches which is way to long.

When cutting the MACS pipe you want to cut the intake side off the pipe off when shortening the pipe. So you measure your 8.5 from the exhaust end of pipe forward...then chop it off.

As far as .21 pipe length this depends on fuel used and what GO-Engine...Pro, or 5 port.

Pipe lengths are only references. The true pipe length for you will depends on your location more then anything. The idea is to make the pipe close to the normal length and use the sliding of the pipe in the exhaust coupler to adjust the tune.

Thanks, Not really...

The pipe old mans terms is to small, using a 3.5 on a larger engine will make high rpm's but you should be good, if it was me I would go 7.5
