Hey all, I am just about finishing the paint on the MV.32 and have a couple questions:
- How the heck do I remove the left over paint mask adhesive from the new finsh without messing up the paint? I laid down a base coat of silver and an overcoat of metalic red, when I removed the paint mask it left a lot of adhesive goo on the undercoat.
- Decals, I plan on using a couple decals, should I apply the clear coat, then the decals, then more clear coat?

I am not an artist by any means, in fact I painted the whole boat with spray paint, I am happy with the work, but should have thought out some if it a little better

ok let the paint dry for 48 hours you can try at 24 but, make sure the paint fully cures
then take a peice of tape and put it on the goo if its fully cured slowly pull tape
good luck

if your decals are stick on waterproof they go on after the clear
if there water base gule then aply between clear coats
bty sounds nice keep posting

I am so $%*##@ irritated now. 5 days of work, sanding, 2 layers primer, silver base coat, metallic red overcoat... paint masks... and the damn silver(chrome) is coming off with the wipe of your hand, ready to chuck it in the lake.

testors paint is an enamal paint
pactra or lusterkote is fuel proof so you cant mix
or use both, unfortunatly it may need to be washed with nitro fuel
then resanded, primed and use pacrta indy silver as base

thanks joseph... I am going to try this again... after I resand.. what primer is best (#of coats?)... any help with a step by step would help. I plan on using xxxmain paint masks (tribal). I never put down any clear coat, can I sand lines and re prime? what clear is best? I am decided to do away with the chrome/red and go with a black/red, I want to get as much irridecence as possible (want to see her shining in the sun), any ideas?

I will be posting a step by step painting of my wide miss vegas, but that won't be untill next weekend. Don't know if you can wait that long. Currently it is in primer and I've put about three coats of a 2 part urethane primer from Nason. A urethane primer is different than what comes in a can from a local auto parts store. Ofcourse it is more money, but I think definately worth it. Between coats it has been sanded with 220 all the way down to 600 before I apply the next coat. The only reason I am sanding and recoating is because there has been quite a bit of body work and you can't see all the little cracks and pin holes once you sand the different areas. If no body work is being done, I would say 2 coats would be enough. Sand the primer down with atleast a 400 before putting on your basecoat. With Silver, sometimes they recommend using what is called a mid coat clear. This seals the silver so the masking doesn't peel the paint off when you remove it. That would go on after the silver, but before the red. It pays to take your time, read as much as you can online to help in your process.

mid coat is also great for keeping the colors from bleeding, for instance if you are spraying multiple candy colors you would want to mid coat them so the colors wont combine, like if you were doing a true fire paint job it takes many layers and colors, most use candies in various yellows, reds, and oranges, well if you just keep adding layers, they turn into one color, so you mid coat it and bam lots of colors with lots of depth! hope that is some help

was a PITA... number 1.. don't goto autozone and think that your going buy chrome paint for bling....obviously I was freaked due to the learning curve (never painted b4)... I layed down 2 layers of plastic primer (one would suffice from what I learned), I was putting it down over the factory clear so I decided to go 2. I laid down the chrome from autozone (not a wise decision) over the whole boat. Played with masks, one negative, one positive... learned from that also...ended up two toning the original design. The clear is TF LustereKote..going to hit it again for the 5th time...worried about the fuel damage.... dunno we shall see....haha..hell..I think this thing is 5lbs heavier with paint...

clear is dry... starting to mock up the engine placement.. I placed 6oz lead on back interior left sponson and held it in place with spray foam. Looks like I will have a vid in the next couple days. I have also contacted a local fabricator that is going to take the grim fin and enlarge it by about 20%, that way I can trim and sharpen it down to where the .32 is not running loose.

collet to shaft line-up, will cut shaft soon for workability:

thanks man, it was an accident. I started with the usual extra coat of epoxy, then decided to add some flare to the interior. I mixed some glitter stuff my wife had laying around with the epoxy, gave it the rough look, and actually looked like granite. Welllll, last week, I had a couple beers and decided to paint the exterior with chrome paint, my dumbazz forgot to mask off the interior of the boat, decided to go with it, hence silver gritty look.
