ok, i see all or most of you have got what looks like ABS tubing made into sweet stands for your boats. i've always made nice wood stands for mine but would like some plans or ideas on how to make one of these out of the abs tubing like yours seem to be. are these home made or can you buy them somewhere?

I usually use 1/2" PVC starting out with about a 6ft. piece cutting to length enough to support the hull and high enough to keep the rudder and prop outta the dirt. This is for my Miss Emily, wider up front to hold onto the sponsons. If for a Vee hull go with 2x 3" for F/R widths depending on hull.

2x 25" for upper hull supports
4x 3" for uprights
1x 4.5" front width piece
1x 2.5" rear width piece
4x 90* elbows
4x T fittings

Get the gray PVC Conduit instead of the white PVC same basic stuff but is a little cheaper 1/2 inch for about anything up to .40 size and 3/4 for any thing larger no real plan needed just make it wide and long enough to fit the boat and give yourself 1-2 inches from the bottom of the lowest part on your boat to the table either use pvc glue or SS screws to hold it together, pre drill your holes if you screw it, personal preference is screws makes it easier ligh it up screw it done but glue works great and is cheaper

Out of the IMPBA Rule Book:
-What would be considered a stand with a "Prop Guard" ?
-What is a "Throwing Handle" for a hydro???

I.M.P.B.A. SAFETY REGULATIONS

GENERAL 1. Whenever running a boat, whether during a race or practicing, there must be a spotter to watch for any unsafe conditions which should arise around the pond.
2. A positive engine throttle control will be required of all boats. 3. Anyone in the pit area MUST wear shoes. (Sandals or open-toed shoes of any kind are NOT acceptable.)
4. All inboard hydros should have throwing handles.
5. No plastic props will be used except for Fast Electric, Scale Electric, and ABS Production Class boats
6. Boat stands should have prop guards.
7. Transmitter (and receivers) on/off switch shall be positioned in such a manner as to prevent its accidental shut off if bumped either during launching, handling, or racing. Same shall apply to switch on boat.
8. There will be no model boats running on the pond while the pickup boat is working. The pickup boat may not go out as long as any model boats are running.
9. Coast Guard approved life vests and/or floatation devices should be worn, or at least available, in the pickup boat. (Some state laws specify children MUST wear them.)
10. Spectator area should be back 20 feet from the shoreline, and signs posted: “No Spectators Beyond This Point.”
11. “NO SWIMMING” signs should be posted in conspicuous places on all sides of the pond.
12. Any tent, dining fly, canopy, or similar device must have adequate in-ground anchors.
13. All accidents must be reported to the club’s Safety Officer. In the event of an accident, the Safety Officer will write his opinion on the accident, and forward it to the IMPBA Safety Director as soon as possible.
14. IMPBA Accident and Injury forms will be kept at the race site at all times. If there should be an accident, it will be recorded on these forms and sent to the National Safety Director as soon as possible. The forms will be a prerequisite to payment of claims. 15. NEVER bring boat back to pit area straight in--always run parallel to shore while slowing it down.

As for the prop guard they might make you have that, for the throwing handle, people say there more dangerous than not having them.
prop guard

as for the handel its usually a t-bar type set up to hold as you throw her in

the prop guard is a good idea. just incase somethin happens and that prop spins off, the guard will save anybody from chop up or anything.

Good point Rob!! your best bet is to check with what ever club you would be running with, and I do agree with the prop guard, buddy of mine severed his finger when shaft came out at start up!

prop guard= be smart and dont put yourself in harms way and then its not needed--tee handle is mostly used on outriggers and for that purpose it is VERY handy not much to hold on the back side of one but a slick sided narrow hull with a spinning prop at the end

I see a lot of talk about staying away from the prop, now I understand that is in our minds as we start, launch and have fun with our boats. Be that as it may you can NEVER be to safe when it comes to anything you do be it hobbies, lawn care, anything. I don't mean to sound like anyone's parents here lol but what would it hurt to have a prop guard? Accidents are called accidents for a reason! Now with that said that is one sweet stand!

hey thanks opio,i like the idea of (garding my prop)
ive had alot of fun this year with my boats but one
broken prop and i was down ,untill i could find more
balance and sharpen (a big step up to brass $)
so a longer stand was perfect for me,and anyone now
